Hi Everyone, I have been following the progress of my dealing with intermittent warnings on TB startup or closure that "an index could not be developed with a message base" (words approximate). It has led to a couple of questions that the very knowledgeable people here can possibly answer. I should add that I appreciate the suggestions I have been hearing here on the list.
Sometimes, after I clear out the .tmp files and do folder maintenance, I won't have such error messages either in exiting or starting TB. The last time it (error message) happened on exiting, I noticed that a .tmp file had suddenly appeared in the inbox. Generally, the .tmp files appear in sent, inbox and trash folders, but they don't always have such .tmp files. I have three accounts - two pop accounts for web-based mail (gmail and yahoo) and one imap account (aol). I generally can get tmp files (indicating an error, I think) in AOL and gmail accounts, and less commonly in Yahoo. (gmail gets 75% of my total traffic). I also notice that BitDefender AV indicates screening incoming email in Yahoo but not the other two accounts. That must be based on some characteristic in BitDefender AV. My question - what likely causes indexing problems? I ask because I get game attachments in the gmail index perhaps twice daily. Can attachments cause indexing problems? I have noticed that having a message with multiple .bmp or .gif attachments in the gmail inbox seems to cause indexing problems. Less commonly do I see a relationship with game attachments (typically small zipped files) and indexing warnings. If there is a correlation between incoming attachments and indexing errors, would it help if TB could be set up like Eudora to keep attachments in a separate folder? Any help here would be appreciated. It is a persistent minor nuisance to get warnings of indexing errors. I hadn't had any such errors (after six months of TB use) until about a month ago. Any ideas what system change might start to cause indexing errors? Would exporting all of my mail folders to Unix Mailboxes, deleting all TB mail folders, then importing the same messages from the Unix Mailboxes help? And - I hope everyone has a good and restful and refreshing Sunday!
