I'm trying to figure out what you mean by what you are saying but my
guess is that your text line lengths are erratic because you are
re-editing already wrapped text without the autoformat feature
switched on. In this case, you can reformat the offending block of
text by pressing Alt+L (left justify) when the cursor is anywhere
within text block.

NB// Alt+L will not work if the cursor is positioned in the text block
area with the mouse. You have to position it with the keyboard.
