Hi joeo,

On 09 November 2000 at 07:35:52 GMT -0500 (which was 12:35 where I
live) joeo wrote and made these points:

Ignore the contents of the System Properties. Microsoft create
standards and then break them time after time. The API for acquiring
the system version information returns numeric version numbers. "ME"
is not numeric. The OS version *is* Windows 98. WinME *is* merely a
service pack.

In the same vein, Windows 2000 doesn't exist in that domain either. It
is (as you can see below) NT version 5. It's not RITlabs fault. It's
Microsoft moving the goalposts (what the API is supposed to do by
specification) and pulling the wool over their customers' eyes. How
else can they charge for a brand new OS when they're really only
selling a service pack? Make it show the OS with a whole new name and,
look, they can charge a comparative fortune for it!

It would be up to RIT to add extra interpretation logic to code that
Micro$oft originally said would be fixed. Is this to happen with every
new OS release?
