In no version of The Bat! a file can be launched without an explicit
user's action. So, I believe that somebody had actually opened such an
attachment...

Version 1.48f contains some additions to prevent users to open any
attached .SCR and .SHS files (.PIF files were disabled earlier). Also,
if a user tries to open an attachment with double extension (like
.TXT.VBS, for example), an additional warning is shown with the
default No button. It is not possible to prevent viruses appear on
any Windows machine by using any special software because the system
architecture. The only thing can be done is user education or (at
least teaching users to read warnings before they do anything)...
