Set up filters for all of your mailing lists to put the message in a
dedicated folder. Do the same with filters for friends, family,
business associates and other know correspondents. Filtering for
membership of the sender in an address group works well for this. A
filter near the top of your list should be one to send known spammers
to the appropriate folder (trash?) The last filter should catch any
remaining messages that aren't sent directly to you via the To: or CC:
fields and send them to a "Suspect" folder. Anything left in your
mailbox could be from a new correspondent, such as a response from
[EMAIL PROTECTED] from your last net abuse report. The messages in the
"Suspect" folder can be checked now and again for false positives and
true negatives. When you check these suspects you'll probably want to
adjust one or more of the other filters.
