They disappear? Sometimes they do that over here and I have to hit
crtl-home. But I cannot put my finger on it, so I haven't sent a bug
report.

Because you have activated auto-format. Go to Utilities in the editor
and uncheck it. Also uncheck auto-wrap in the process.

To make the change (unchecked auto-format) permanent, go to the main
window, choose Options / Editor Preferences and tick/untick to your
heart's content.
