Erm... take a look at any of the last 50 viruses that have hit the news... what email client to they specifically target? Plus, if the firewall was setup correctly, having a worm on the inside of the network shouldn't really matter, as it shouldn't be able to get out... along with a centralized virus scanning system... and you have no problems.
