Hello Jernej,

I just saw your post of July 6, 2002 and tried your
suggestion.

JEB>> ... Is there a way to test it to any extent without
JEB>> deliberately emailing myself a virus?

JS> Create a file and put the following line in it (hopefully it won't
JS> trigger virus scanner):

JS> X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

JS> Save it as eicar-test.com and try e-mailing it to you.

This computer came w/ NAV 2K2 but I run the free Slovakian AVG with
the TB! plugin.

I created the file but have AVG set to check outgoing email also and
it would NOT let me attach the file to TB!'s Message Editor and told
me run AVG, which I did. AVG told me the file couldn't be healed and
recommended that I choose Move to a Quarantine Vault which I did.

I assume that the file I created is NOT a virus but rather,
only _resembles_ a virus (please confirm).

DrWeb (Moscow) also has a TB plugin but is shareware and on finding
a virus will ask whether the user wants to shut down the computer or
lock the file, which allows one to continue downloading, after
taking note of the name and location of the file.
