There are some who prefer to keep things simple and they may wish to work globally with a particular view mode. The view mode settings invoked via the main window's message list header bar are global. Selecting a particular view there leads to the view being applied on all folders across all accounts. It does seem to over-ride all other folder specific settings. However, if you wish to be more complicated, i.e., use specific view modes for specific folders etc., then you can't apply a global view and instead have to set that global view mode to 'none'. IMO, this setup seems reasonable to me, except that from a user interface standpoint, it's misleading and far from intuitive in design. I have a problem with such a global setting being accessible from the message list header bar. Intuitively, one would assume that the menu for the message list header bar would apply to that particular folders message list. Every other View Mode menu does this, so it only follows....
