Because you can get a spam bot to join a newsgroup, fetch say a months
worth of emails, and harvest away, while mailing list archives are a
lot harder to work on, having to request many pages usually. Just a
thought :) The obfustication is done on the website only I believe,
which means the nntp is wide open.
