with ver 2.11.x...I started getting 'error reading database'
messages (ERDM)...in ver 2.10.03...which doesn't seem to elicit
runtime error messages....
SL:I invoked Message Finder to find certain messages in the Inbox of my
IMAP account.
Allie Martin: This is occurring with an IMAP account? Hmmmmm.
Allie Martin:We would then need to know if you're searching cached messages or ifI am 99.99% certain I was just searching the cache. I DID consider at the time that the problem might be server-side...but the evidence suggested otherwise...(eg I was not on-line...and my TB's IMAP settings are for manual connection...and automatic disconnect when synchronization is finished...
you're searching the server's database.
Allie Martin:Have you tried clearing the Inbox cache? Right click the Inbox and hitSee above - I am pretty certain I was just searching the cache of my IMAP account (FastMail) Inbox. However...I attempted to do just as you suggested above: Firstly I could see no 'clear cache now' button. I DID have an 'empty folder' option...which I uneasily thought might be the same thing...... My unease proved to be well founded: 'empty folder' did empty the cache...but then I wondered why I could not rebuild the cache from the Inbox server-side. A visit to my Inbox server side confirmed my suspicions: all my messages there were marked for deletion... :-) (but not purged, fortunately....). Anyway...I am not too worried...Although 154 messages were involved..they are not that important (unlike my work files!!)...and, because I am also using ThunderBird...I have a current copy of these 154 messages in the FastMail (IMAP account) Inbox cache in T-Bird...(and I have just copied all these to a local folder in T-Bird....). Life is interesting, nicht wahr?? ;-)
the 'clear cache now' button. Resync so that the local cache can be
rebuilt. Are you still having the problem? If so, then the problem is
with the server's database.
The problem has only developed in the last week or so...(since going to ver 2.11.x I think...but I suspect that is coincidental...). I have used TBat! for about 2 years I think...and IMAP for at least several months...and in TheBat as well as other mailers...Allie Martin:We'll now have to elucidate if it's a genuine problem with the database or a problem with TB! using that server's databases. Questions that would help to clarify this are:
- Is this an acquired problem or has it always existed when using TB!
with this IMAP account?
And the ERD messages in TB! happened with a POP account as well as the IMAP one...
Allie Martin:- Have you tried another IMAP client and doing searches with the sameYes... I did a search of my Inbox in Thunderbird....off-line, then on-line, then after sync...It all worked perfectly.
IMAP account? Does the other IMAP client work with the account without
any problems?
In short...the problem is not server side...( BTW, I have found FastMail very good/reliable). The problem is located entirely with TheBat (and/or the fool at the keyboard.. :-D )
See above.. I am certain I was off-line when attempting to repair the IMAP Inbox (cache)...which I could not do...and had to resort to crtl-alt-del to get out of TBat. The repair of the POP3 account Inbox seemed to work...but then it kept repeating...
SL: This caused an ERDM which asked me to repair the database. Despite
attempts to do this (using Maintenance)... all of which
failed...eventually I could only get out of The Bat (TB) by
rebooting the computer.
Allie Martin:This will VERY likely not work if you're trying to use TB!'s mailbase
repair tool to repair an IMAP account's *remote* mailbase.
I think I anticipated all your diagnostic suggestions, Allie...but appreciate your patience and insightful input...
Perhaps now you might suggest I try another email client ...or at least quietly leave the list..or get a brain transplant...?? ;-)
At least I am not getting runtime messages of late..(Thanks for the reminder that many experience problems with BayesIt Thomas...I have 'unplugged' it...)
