Some are read, some are unread. It purges nothing at all, regardless
of whether I set it to delete message beyond a certain date or above
a
certain number. It used to work fine, but the last couple of versions
it hasn't; I kept hoping that whatever was causing it would be

and fixed, but obviously it hasn't, so I decided to post here to see
if anyone else is having this problem.

Agreed it shouldn't happen. I was rather frustrated, to put it
mildly,
because that did not go to the trash folder, which is the default.
They simply disappeared.
