Cloud Computing: Methods and Practical Approaches
To be published by Springer in 2013
Edited by: Dr Zaigham Mahmood, University of Derby, UK

Chapter Proposal Submission Deadline: 5 Sept 2012 (extended)
Full Chapter Submission Deadline: 15 Oct 2012

 Introduction

Cloud computing is an emerging paradigm that allows cloud consumers to
self-provision cloud-based IT resources. It promises numerous benefits
including reduction in capital expenditure as well as increased scalability and
business agility. As a result, enterprises are positioning themselves to take
advantage of the new paradigm. However, cloud provides a virtualised, shared
and distributed environment that requires new methods and approaches to
develop, deploy and access cloud services and resources. In this respect, much
research and work is being undertaken on topics such as: software development
suitable for distributed environments; effective systems deployment; movement,
storage and retrieval of ‘big data’; cloud brokerage services; development of
hybrid clouds, roadmap to cloud migration; issues relating to security and
threats due to virtualised environments; as well as standards. Organisations in
the process of moving to the cloud environments are also developing and
deploying novel methods and approaches for successful adoption to reap the
benefits that the new paradigm promises. There are numerous success stories
that could provide recommendations and best practices for other organisations
on the road to cloud adoption.

The aim of the proposed book is to discuss and report on methods and frameworks
as well as practical approaches currently being adopted by practitioners or
researched within the academic community, to benefit from this emerging
paradigm.

Recommended Topics: include, but not limited to, the following:

New approaches to applications design and development for distributed computing
Frameworks for systems deployment in distributed environments
Novel mechanisms to counter security threats due to virtualisation environments
Methodologies with respect to movement, storage and retrieval of ‘big data’
Modelling and simulation of cloud and distributed environments
Brokerage services to access cloud-based resources more efficiently
Practical approaches for integration of on-premise and cloud-based services
Approaches and best practices for building hybrid clouds
Effective approaches to cloud bursting and cloud bridging
Discussion of issues relating to scalability, availability and performance
Testing for reliability, availability and performance
Development of standards especially with respect to interoperability and trust
Approaches to building clouds and migration to cloud environments
Case studies and best practices.

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit 1-2 page chapter proposals
clearly stating the objective, scope and structure of the proposed chapters -
by the deadline mentioned above. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified
within one week and given instructions and guidelines for full chapter
preparation. Completed chapters should be approximately 10,000 words or
approximately 20 pages in length. Full chapters will be reviewed following a
double-blind peer review process to ensure relevance, quality and high
information content. Proposals and full chapters, as WORD format, should be
sent to: [email protected]
