-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
The current (well few hour old) tcpdump cvs version seems to have a
broken parser in it, as this fails:
root@sky > tcpdump arp
Warning: Kernel filter failed: Invalid argument
tcpdump: listening on eth0
..
I STRONGLY suggest that to help catch such problems you implement
"make check" such that it tests the various possible expression parser
input. Likely in both libpcap and (when root) in tcpdump.
Backing up to the tcpdump-3.5.2 and libpcap-0.5.2 versions seems to
get things back to working as per the man page.
Along these lines, the standard error report "tcpdump: parse error"
is not very helpful. Something for the wish list (if any of us had
free time...) would be to vastly improve the parser's error reporting
such that us poor tired sysadmins would have a hint where we messed
up.
Enjoy.
