Here is a site with a graph from the UCR for 2004.

Based on this info, it looks as if murder is in decline, and that gender
plays more of a role in victimization than ethnicity.

This chart shows percent change from year to year. This is preliminary
2005 data.

Subject: TEACHSOC: murder rate?

Hi All,

I don't teach crime, but got this today and need to respond to someone:

1. The murder rate is rapidly rising
2. Most of those killed are people of color.

Can someone flesh these out with sources if possible...if it's easy,
handy, and quick for you.

I thought the murder rate was down a bit along with crime overall I
would guess that the majority of those killed are persons of color.
(And, we're talking "violent crime" here...not the white collar stuff,
environmental racism, or war...which also disproportionately kills the
poor and persons of color, yes? However, if you have anything on
those, I'd take 'em.)

Thanks.
