Xavier University of Louisiana.  The Department of Sociology invites 
applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of 
Assistant or Associate, contingent on qualifications, beginning in the 
Fall 2006 semester.  The ideal candidate could teach a broad range of 
courses including Introduction to Sociology, and at least two of the 
following:  deviance, social organization, and quantitative research 
methods.  Because Xavier University of Louisiana has a strong 
pharmaceutical and pre-medical program, a secondary teaching and 
research interest in medical sociology is preferred.  Candidate should 
be committed to student learning through service-learning and 
undergraduate research.  Ph.D. is preferred; A.B.D. with teaching 
experience will be considered.

Founded in 1915 by St. Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed 
Sacrament, Xavier University of Louisiana is the nation’s only 
historically black and Catholic institution.  The campus, which has been 
fully restored following Hurricane Katrina, is located in downtown New 
Orleans.  The Department of Sociology is a small but growing department 
that makes strong contributions to Xavier’s institutional mission of
