We have been using ENGL in Winnebago with ZFD7 since about 2003 and it is worth every penny we paid for the initial licensing and annual software maintenance. Setup is very time-consuming but once set up well it literally saves me a staff person throughout the school year. We are in the process of moving to ZCM this summer/fall.
We have a single WindowsXP image for the entire district including every piece of hardware we own and yes, sysprep is a part of that process, but incredibly easy to set up once you understand how the process works. That said, I'm rather picky about maintaining hardware standards everywhere in the district so depending on how standardized your hardware is you may end up with two post-sysprep windows images worst-case scenario. For our initial deployment of ENGL we hired a consultant from Concensus consulting (previously a different name) to help us with the setup and knowledge transfer and again, that was some of the best money I've spent over the years.
