I heard the drop-the-parts-you-don't-like-after-rebate idea too. Here's the deal, I already have a family-talk plan (I mange my mom and brother's accounts) and I already have been paying for the family-unlimited text/picture package ($30/month) . . . so I had to add nothing extra in that regard. We spent $0 on the phone (she decided on a sunburst<http://is.gd/dJUC7>instead of a solstice because of the looks of the phone, but saved some cash too. You loose a little screen and it is not 3G, but she does not plan to use data and it has a little smiley face thing between the buttons...) and so with the state employee discount it's an extra $9 a month to add a line (which her parents have been paying $10 a month for her on their family talk plan.)
