Hi John,

According to the Wiki page (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBook#iBook_G3_.28.22Clamshell.22.29) they can
all run OS X 3.9 Panther, and the last one can run Tiger.

If you don't want to upgrade it (or can't find that version), you might
want to check out this MacOS Abandonware site:
https://sites.google.com/site/oldmacarchive/ - downloading the software is
technically unauthorized, but it's all so very old that you don't see
anyone go after abandonware sites often.

Completely on the up-and-up, you could install Finnix (
http://www.finnix.org/) - it's a Debian-based Linux distro that still runs
on G3 PPCs.
