I think that most people probably are, to be honest. Unless you are using a pointing device other than a standard mouse, AND actually want to use it in it's more advanced modes, AND are unsatisfied with the current solution, there is no perceived advantage. None of the workstations I use on a daily basis even have a pointing device of any sort. X is quite usable just from the keyboard. When I do use a machine, (typically a laptop), with a touchpad, no matter what the hardware is capable of, I want it to act like a dumb touchpad. I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in multi-touch, multiple pressure levels, corners of the pad that do strange things, etc. If and only if I am using a real graphics tablet do I want these features. Suddenly finding that I can't disable it all and that the trackpad is configured differently and behaves differently, would be a nightmare. Out of the OpenBSD installations that even have a pointing device, many of those will only ever be used to move windows around an X desktop. Extended features are not necessary or wanted for many typical usage scenarios. Infact, they just get in the way. The current system works, and there seems little advantage to changing it. Just because Linux does it a different way, doesn't mean that we gain anything by copying that. Sorry to be negative, but I just don't see the perceived value in this. -- Tati Chevron Perl and FORTRAN specialist. SWABSIT development and migration department. http://www.swabsit.com
