The technical scenarios are syntactical requirements from the
implementation guide (required vs situational segments, alpha numeric vs.
date data elements, repeated loop limitations, etc.). Business scenarios
cover a specific business situation called out in the implementation guide.
For example, there is a situational loop in the professional 837 guide for
anesthesia...that is a specific business scenario. If there is something
in the guide that is called out specifically for Medicare or Medicaid, that
is also a business scenario. I hope this helps. Feel free to call me at
the number below if things are still unclear. Thanks!!!

Subject: Clarification for the
test scenarios
07/30/2001 05:17 PM
Could someone please explain what is meant by 'technical' test cases as
opposed to 'business' test cases for the HIPAA testing? We are working on
developing test case scenarios needed for Medicaid (and I believe these are
the 'business' test cases), but was not sure exactly what the differences
were. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.
