dvips uses the 'PostScript header' path for it (TEXPSHEADERS variable, kpse_tex_ps_header_format from the "C" API of the kpathsea library). To simulate that with kpsewhich, use kpsewhich --format='PostScript header' music-drawing-routines.ps Thomas
