Please, create a minimal example (so, load as few packages as possible) and process your file with \listfiles. Then, please send me your sample file and the log produced by latex.

I finally figured it out. Some slide presentations had the following line:
\usepackage[pdftex]{color}
I'm not familiar with that option, but apparently it results in a .pdf instead of a .dvi
