I made an update of my MusiXTeX to version T111 by replacing the files of the .../tex-directory and the .../mf-directory and deleting the old tfm-files. Using PMX the barnumbers are positioned directly above the upper note line with no space between. Replacing musixtex.tex by musixtex.tex of T107 the barnumbers are positioned as they should. I use linux (SuSE 8.0).
