Hello list, I will make it short: the update to ghostscript 6.51 solved my PDF problems. - - - If only I had known.... What a mess. ;-)
At least I learned some more about the configuraion of everything, and we all have learned that ghostscript 5.50 is likely to give grainy PDF output. Case closed. Thanks again!
