Simon, I compiled Froelich (!, after my recent trevails) and I'm not sure I see the problem. The curl at the bottom of the bracket starts about 1 \internote below the bottom staff, while the one at the top of it starts about 4 \internote above the top line of the top vocal staff. Did you want that top curl to start closer to the top staff line? If it did, it would come very close to the top of the treble clef, and would be starting below the top of that clef.
