Think the SSS will be looking for a new VP?

Diabetic describes ordeal in NSW cave

Yeah, he sounds real “experienced” alright, Darla.

He left his only source of water at the entrance, only brought A light (meaning
1, not the 3 that is recommended), was without his diabetes meds, and went by
himself!

To top it off, he’s the VP of the Sydney Speleological Society.

I know folks here have stated that they have gone caving solo, and I still
maintain it’s dangerous as hell.

With this guy being a diabetic or not, one should never cave solo if it can be
helped.

Have y’all read the NSS Accident Report that came in the mail a while back? My
kids enjoy reading it, as do I, and we have learned a LOT about what to do
And not do when caving.

Evidently, this guy hasn’t or overestimated his skill level, another way to
find yourself in said Report.

Off the soap box.

Cave safely and have a great Memorial Day weekend!

(BTW, let’s pause this weekend to thank all of the men and women who have
served and died for our country to help protect us and enable us to have the
freedom to do things like, go caving, and ensure that our biggest complaint we
have in this country is gas prices. It could be a heck of a lot worse if we
lived in another country!).

Did everyone see this article? How embarrassing. This guy is the
vice-president of the Sydney Speleological Society.

Seeing this article reminded me of the advertisement in the June Outside
Magazine with Aron Ralston quoted at saying, "I still climb solo, only now I
carry a PLB backup by my side. You should too."

Is that really responsible backcountry exploration as it says in the ad or even
responsible advertising?
