For those of you who don't know, Paul Stevens has long been associated with
various aspects of caving. I first remember meeting him at a DC Grotto meeting
in Washington in probably 1973. He was an officer of some sort the entire 3
years I was in the DC area. He was also heavily involved in Regional caving and
politics--Virginia, West Virginia, and probably some Pennsylvania. He was later
on the NSS Board and served as nearly every officer (Mixon, help) they had,
including President of the NSS. Despite the fact that he was diagnosed with
dibilitating ALS, he continued to do what he could as a leader and attended
conventions up until a few years ago. He was, all around, one of the best
cavers and leaders I've ever known.
