Geary, Yes. Here are my instructions to all presenters:
Keep it simple. Avoid technical terms and jargon. Avoid graphs and charts. Since we are likely to have a fair number of the general public there, don't assume they even know what "caves", "karst", and "aquifer" mean. Deine everything, but use short words. Aim for a 6th grade comprehension level. DO use LOTS of graphics, especially illustrations, photos, maps, and videos. Don't linger on any one slide too long. Keep it snappy. Our aim is to educate (both cavers and non-cavers), and instill a big feeling of "Oh wow!, I don't know that! That is SO cool!" through all of our presentations. Stories and anecdotes help relate the topic to the audience, as long as they are pertinent. Remember that you only have 20 minutes (or so), plus questions and answers afterwards. And I WILL keep everybody on schedule. Can you send me a title and a couple of lines of description for the Program?
