THE REFRESHING DRINKING WATER.
The Chozha king wanted to visit Soma Sundareswaran frequently without any
fear or danger. He started sending costly gifts to Paandiya king Rajendran
in order to befriend him. Rajendra Paandian also returned his favor by
sending costly gifts.
Marriages could seal the friendship between Kings and countries. Chozha
King wanted to marry his daughter to Rajendra Paandian.
Rajasimman-the younger brother of Rajendran-went in person to the Chozha
kingdom and impressed the Chozha king favorably. He married to the king’s
daughter. Now the Chozha king wanted to crown his son in law as the new
Paandiya king!
He set out with a huge army to battle with Paandiyan.
Rajendran was shocked at the sudden developments.He prayed to Siva to
handle the delicate situation.
Siva assured the king through asareeri that the victory would be Rajenda
Paandian’s and the Chozha army would be defeated.
The next morning Rajendra Paandian did his puja and went to the battle
field.The Chozha army could be compared to an ocean while the Paandian army
could be compared to a river.
By Lord’s grace each Paandia soldier appeared as many soldiers to the
enemy’s eyes.The battle went on for a long time. The scorching sun
dehydrated both the armies.
Suddenly a pandal appeared on the Paandian’s side. A handsome man started
distributing cool refreshing drinking water to the Paandiya soldiers.With their
thirst quenched they felt refreshed and attacked he Chozha army with
renewed vigor.
The Chola army became weak and tired and were easily defeated by the
smaller Paandian army. The Chozha king and Rajasimman were arrested and
brought to Rajendran.
He asked the lord,” How am I supposed to deal with those two?” Siva replied
“In the way you deem fit since you know all the dharma saathrass!”
Rajendran offered chaturanga sena and ornaments to the Chozha king and sent
him back safely. He divided his kingdom into two and made Rajasimman the
king of one of those two countries.
