A 12 hour penance / fast / prayer is being organised in 23 centres in 12 districts of Sri Lanka on 10th April 2021 coinciding with the 119th birth anniversary of Swami Vipulananda of the Ramakrishna Mission.
The demands of this hunger-strike are three-fold:
1. Provision of Hinduism with a priority status in the proposed new constitution of Sri Lanka.
2. Inclusion of a Hindu / Buddhist protection clause (or anti-conversion clause ) in the proposed new constitution.
3. Inclusion of a Bovine protection clause preventing slaughter of cows, build and calves (that are sacred to Hindus and Buddhists) in the proposed new constitution.
Swami Vipulananda hails from Karaitheevu, a village in Amparai District, Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. He is an embodiment of the culture and traditions of the prehistoric past of this island.
Swami Vipulanada is the direct consequence of the tangible social formations, identifiable economic activities and recognisable cultural institutions since pre-Iron Age culture in Sri Lanka.
The worship of nature, the codified social norms and the associated cultural activities directed the evolutionary process towards shaping us into what we are today in Sri Lanka. Swami Vipulananda bears testimony to this un-interrupted thread of Hindu faith-based culture native to Sri Lanka.
Intrusion by teachings of those who wished to direct behavioral aspects of humans through dogma-based ideologies did not interrupt the continuous evolutionary chain of Sri Lankans as Hindus.
Hinduism, as we call our faith today in Sri Lanka, survives because this centuries-old indigenous faith is intertwined with beliefs and practices.
By observing Swami Vipulanada's 119th birth anniversary, we are also observing the birth anniversaries of many of his spiritual predecessors since pre-Iron age era.
Hinduism is Indigenous to Sri Lanka. Lord Buddha recognised this during his three visits to Sri Lanka. Ashoka’s missionaries recognised the Hindu tradition as native to the island. So much so, neither the arrival of Buddha nor the subsequent arrival of Ashoka’s missionaries disturb the Hindu character of Sri Lanka. If Buddhists required places of worship, they built them alongside Hindu temples, not disturbing the indigenous nature of the spiritual, social and cultural traditions.
Such an entrenched faith based philosophy of this island requires recognition in the constitutional frame of Sri Lanka.
This recognition will formalise the inclusive social and cultural traditions of Buddhists, in continuing to follow and practice the intrinsically inbuilt Sri Lankan Hindu way of life.
Also, it will form a protective wall against the recent aggressors, the Abrahamic religionists, of whom the Christians demean Hindu temples and Buddhist temples as abodes of Satan, and of whom the Mohamedans refuse to acknowledge any form of sacred image worship (Murti Pooja). Extremists among them are provoking Buddhists (1883 Kotahena Riot, 1903 Anuradhapura Riot, 1915 Gampola Riot) and destroying Hindu places of worship (2015 Hindu Kali temple destruction at Oddamavady, not far away from Swami Vipulananda's birth place, as well as the 2019 ThiruKetheeswaram Temple Arch destruction).
With this recent bleak background, we seek:
1. Provision of Hinduism with a priority status in the proposed new constitution of Sri Lanka.

பாம்பையும் வேம்பையும் வழிபட்டோம். கல்லையும் மண்ணயும் போற்றினோம். சூரியனையும் சந்திரனையும் கணக்கு எடுத்தோம். நீரையும் வானத்தையும் தொழுதோம். சிவனாகவே யாவும் தெரிந்தன. இலங்கை மண் எங்கள் மண். ஒவ்வொரு பரலையும் வழிபட்டோம். இயற்கை எங்கள் ஆசிரியர். பட்டறிவு எங்கள் வளர்ச்சி. தீயன களைந்தோம். நல்லன வளர்த்தோம். செதுக்கினோம் செதுக்கினோம். கூர்மையாக்கினோம். சமூகத்தைச் செதுக்கினோம் பண்பாட்டைச் செதுக்கினோம். சைவத் தமிழர்களாகத் திளைக்கிறோம். இந்தச் செதுக்கலின் பேறே விபுலானந்த அடிகளார். இந்த வளர்ச்சியின் விளைவே விபுலானந்த அடிகளார். இச் சமூகக் கூர்மையாக்கலின் படையலே விபுலானந்த அடிகளார். இலங்கையின் மனித வரலாறு கற்காலம் முதலானது. இரும்புக் காலம் ஊடானது. பெருங்கற்காலம் தொடரானது. வரலாற்றின் ஊடாகச் செதுக்கினோம். செதுக்கிக் கூர்மையாக்னோம். சைவசமயப் பண்பாடாக்கினோம். இலங்கைத் தொல்லியலார் தோண்டத் தோண்டக் கிடைப்பன யாவும் மனித வாழ்வுக்குச் சைவமும் தமிழும் ஈந்த எச்சங்கள். விபுலானந்த அடிகளாரை உருவாக்கிய கூறுகள். புத்தர் இலங்கைக்கு முதன் முதலில் வருகிறார். மாணிக்கக் கங்கைக் கரையிலே முருகனைப் போற்றிய தைப்பூச நாளில் கால் வைக்கிறார். முருக வழிபாட்டிற்காக இலங்கை முழுவதும் இருந்து அங்கே மக்கள் திரண்டு இருந்தார்கள். மகாவம்சம் கூறுகிறது. இலங்கையில் புத்தர் சந்தித்த பண்பாடு சைவத் தமிழ்ப் பண்பாடு. அசோகனின் தூதர் அநுராதபுர அரண்மனைக்கு வந்தனர். சைவத் தமிழன் மூத்த சிவனின் மகன் ஆட்சிக் காலத்தில் வந்தனர். நாக நாட்டில், அநுராதபுரத்தில், களனியில், உரோகணத்தில் சைவத் தமிழர் அரசுகள் ஆட்சிகள். மகாவம்சமும் இதையே கூறும். இலங்கை மண்ணில் இலங்கை மக்கள் உருவாக்கிய வாழ்வு முறை, சமூக கட்டமைப்பு, பண்பாட்டுக் கோலங்கள், தத்துவ உசாவல்கள், வழிபாட்டுமுறைகள் இந்த மண்ணிற்கே உரித்தானவை, புத்த சமயத்தவர் இந்த மண்ணின் மரபுகளை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டனர். புத்த தத்துவம் காயாவில் இருந்து வந்தாலும் மண்ணின் சைவத் தத்துவத்தோடு இணைந்தனர். கடந்த 2500 ஆண்டுகளாகச் சைவ சமயத்தை ஏற்று வாழ்ந்து வருகின்றனர். புத்த விகாரைகளில், புத்தர்களின் இல்லங்களில், புத்தர்களின் உள்ளங்களில் போதனைக்குப் புத்த சமயம், சாதனைக்குச் சைவ சமயம். சைவக் கோயில்கள் சாத்தானின் வாழ்விடங்கள். புத்த விகாரங்கள் சாத்தானின் வாழ்விடங்கள். உருவவழிபாடு உடைக்க வேண்டியது நீக்க வேண்டியது. சொல்பவர்கள் இந்த மண்ணில் விளைந்தவர்கள் அல்லர். பாலைவனத்தில் முகிழ்த்த, பாலைவன மக்களுக்காக அமைந்த, கொள்கைகளை கருத்தியலை இந்த மண்ணில் திணித்துப் புகுத்த விரும்புவர்கள். கொட்டாஞ்சேனை 1883, அநுராதபுரம் 1903, கம்பளை கண்டி 1915 எனத் தொடர்ந்தன. இசுபுல்லா சொல்கிறார் (2016) அமைச்சர் பதவியைப் பயன்படுத்தி ஒடட்டமாவடிக் காளி கோயிலை இடித்தேன். திருக்கேதீச்சர வளைவை (2019) இடித்ததாகக் குற்ற உசாவல் கத்தோலிக்கப் பாதிரியர் மாரக்கசு மீது. இருக்கின்ற சட்டங்களைப் பயனுனுத்துவர். சமூக கட்டமைப்பைப் பயனுறுத்துவர். சைவர்களை, தமிழர்களை அழித்தொழிக்கப் பயனுறுத்துவர். சைவ வழிபாட்டிடங்களை உடைக்க, இடிக்கத் தொடர்ந்து முனைபவர். பாலைவனத்தின் அரியதான பசுஞ்சோலையின் கருத்தியலே ஆபிரகாமிய சமயங்கள். இலங்கை மண்ணோ பசுஞ்சோலைக்குள் பொட்டலாகப் பாலை நிலங்கள். எதிர் எதிர் புவியியல் நிலை. பாலைவன நாட்டுக் கருத்தியல் பசுஞ்சோலை நாட்டிற்கு வேண்டுமா? பசுஞ் சோலைக்குள் முகிழ்த்த சைவ சமயத்தைக் காக்கவேண்டும். இந்த மண்ணின் மரபுகளைப் பேணவேண்டும். இந்த மண்ணுக்கே உரித்தான பண்பாட்டை வளர்க்க வேண்டும். சைவசமயம் இந்த மண்ணில் வாழ வேண்டும். புதிய அரசியலமைப்பில் சைவத்துக்கு முன்னுரிமை கொடுக்க. புதிய அரசியலமைப்புள் மதமாற்றத் தடைகளை விதிகளைக்குக. புதிய அரசியலமைப்புள் மாடு வெட்டத் தடையை விதிகளாக்குக. எந்த நோக்கங்களுக்காக விபுலானந்த அடிகள் வாழ்ந்தாரோ அந்த நோக்கங்களை முன்னெடுக்கும் அவரின் 129ஆவது பிறந்தநாளில் இலங்கையின் 12 மாவட்டங்களில் 17 திருக்கோயில்களில் இந்த 3 கோரிக்கைகளுக்காகத் தவமிருக்கிறோம். உண்ணாநோன்பு இருக்கிறோம். வழிபடுகிறோம். ஆதரிப்பீர். -- மறவன்புலவு க. சச்சிதானந்தன்
