Q1         Which crop saved humanityfrom famine in history?

A1          Steve Aceep FormerWorking With Covid Patient Everyday Nov 30

This crop, Manihot esculenta, commonly known as cassava , manioc,or
yuca.Cultivatedas an annual crop in tropical and subtropical regions for its
edible starchytuberous root, a major source of carbohydrates.

Casava is one of the most drought-tolerant crops, capable of growing onmarginal
soil. In fact the only crops can survive war, flood and drought. Duringwar when
the people don't have time to cultivates crop, cassava can be foragedin the
wild.

Cassava are so versatile it can be eaten only by boiling it roots or canbe turn
into flour to make bread or noodle. The leaf can be cook into tastydish. That
why we never heard great famine in the region where the cassava areavailable.

My note- Casava/Tapioca is soldin Sabarimalai season along withrice porridge-
Kappa Kanji in temporary restaurants. Tapioca papad is in demandand liked by
most in Tamilnadu and Kerala.

Q2         Do majority of Indian ITprofessionals live from hand to mouth even
those who are experienced?

A2          Prasanna Bhalerao Pleasedo not share my answers on monetised
spaces.2h

I can speak for myself first.

I am a software professional for 33.5 years and first 1.5 years as aelectronics
engineer. My first year (in electronics small scale industry) wasnot only hands
to mouth but at many times I had to skip one meal. I had reallyno money and
living alone in Pune was just to darned difficult with ₹550in hand per month in
1986. I was earning ₹1800 pm in June, 1988 which was not hand to mouthexactly
but no great shakes. By the time I got married in 1991, I was earning ₹3200pm.
My wife was earning ₹1700 in hand. After marriage, for first 2 years itwas
paycheck to paycheck. Mybig break cave in late 1992 when I joined ICIM, Pune at
₹93,000 per annum.Foreign trips came soon.

I never lived hand to mouth since 1993. However, I was not saving mucheither.
Couldn't. Financial security didn't arrive till 2003.

Do software engineers today live hand to mouth? I believe that thosefreshers
who are not from the city, have to rent, eat out, etc., do livepaycheck to
paycheck. ₹22,000 to ₹30,000 is not luxury by any means and Mumbai, Bangalore,
Hyderabad, Pune or Chennai are not cheap by anystandards.

Per month costs: Rent for 1-bhk is ₹8000–10,000,food costs ₹3500 pm at least,
transport can start at ₹1500,. Mobile is cheap at least for now but stillaround
₹150.Unless one is ok to watch movies on mobile a movie ticket costs ₹125–250,
a visit to the restaurant makes the walletlighter by at least ₹250, a visit to
home costs ₹1000to ₹2500return, and so on. I have seen 4 persons sharing a1-bhk
flat to make ends meet.

How long does the struggle last? At least first 4 years. Then comes acouple or
more years of God life. Now comes marriage. So unless there's is double income,
there is astruggle. The years later the first child is born. More struggle.
Morehands to mouth. Time to buy a home. Time to buy a car. Where is the money
unlessthere is an endowment from the father?

So yes, at least 50% struggle if not exactly livinghand to mouth. For atleast
first 15 years there is a struggle. This is not even assuming that thefamily is
over reaching and overspending. Unless there is double income, or onehas a
residence that is paid up, this may be the case. These are my
personalexperiences and thoughts.

Q3         Why was Makrana Marblechosen to build the Taj Mahal?

A3          Devansh Sharma Lives inIndia (2006–present)Nov 29

The water absorption of Makranamarble is said to be the lowest among all types
in India, and the marble is claimed to contain 98 percent ofcalcium carbonate
and only two percent of impurities.

Makrana White Marble is the best quality marble.

Why not Italian Marble?

Indian marble is medium lustre as compared to Italian marble. Indianmarble
requires a lesser level of skills as compared to Italian marble. Itwould be
difficult to work with Italian marble.

P.S there were no kajaria stores at that time.

Q4         What type of motors are usedin air conditioner?

A4          2 Answers  BobbyDoran, studied Refrigeration &Air Conditioning at
Dublin Institute of Technology (2016)Answered Mar 28, 2017

Different units use different types of motors in both Refrigeration
andAir-conditioning. The most common would be a CSIR (Capacitor Start
InductionRun) but you may end up working for a few weeks without seeing this
type andpossibly seeing another type - split phase, capacitor start capacitor
run, shaded pole motor or a threephase motor - which will almost certainly be
most common in any industrialapplications.

(2019-present)Answered Jan 13

Different types of motor is used in different model. Generally AC motorsare
used in low star rating(till 3star) and non inverter model.

DC motors are used in invertermodel with more star rating.

Q5         What is the differencebetween split air conditioner, central air
conditioning and window airconditioner?

A5          Little Dominic AnsweredMay 19, 2020

Difference between Window AC and Split AC

• The main difference is that window air conditioner has a single unitwhereas
split air conditioner has two units.(indoor and outdoor)

• Generally people use ac more at night. The window ac must beuncomfortable
because of the sound they create when functioning. And the splitac does not
make much noise. Because the compressor and the condenser units areinstalled in
outdoor. The evaporator unit inside the room does not make muchnoise thereby
providing a higher comfort.

• And split air conditionerlooks aesthetically pleasing, butis relatively more
complicated to install and requires more space as comparedto window air
conditioner. Because split ac have two units.

• And there are difference designs between spilt as and window. Outdoorunit
consist of compressor, condenser and expansion vale. And indoor unit isconsist
of capillary tube, evaporator and cooling fan. But window is a
combinedstructure of all its components within one unit.

• Split air conditioners aresuitable for any place, such as large room,
commercial and office spaces. But the window air conditioners are suitable
onlyfor single rooms in apartment, small offices, etc.

• In case split ac it can be installed any wherein the room withoutblocking
widow or day light. Whereas window ac is installed in window, becauseof that
its blocking daylight.

• Split air conditioner floor mounted and selling mounted are options
areavailable. And inverterseries is also available in split ac which helps
reduce the current. But in window ac there are no any other options are
available.

• Generally split air conditioners are available in the range of 0.8 tonto 3
ton. The real work of cooling down air is done outdoor unit and it can bein any
size as it is installed in outside. And window air conditioners areavailable in
0.75 ton to 3 ton. Window ac hold one unit it size directlyproportional to
tonnage capacity. Higher the capacity and bigger the size.

• And there is noany security threat. But in window ac window is open and
someone can remove airconditioner from outside and can enter into the house.

• Installation of split ac is quite difficult and require skilled labourand
window ac installation is easy and it does not require skilled labour.

• Split ac is more difficult to maintain than window ac. It need morecareful
and specialized maintenance.

• Split air conditioner is more efficient than window ac.

Generally Split ACs will be costlier by 10–20 percent than the windows ACwith
similar efficiency and capacity.

• In case users have to pay more for split air conditioners becauseconsist of
two unit. So window ac cheap than split ac. Split ac will costalmost double
than that of a window ac.

My note- In Chennai shops onlysplit AC and inverter AC only are available now.

Q6         Are human egg cells thelargest cells humans produce?

A6          Ken Saladin Formerprofessor of histology (microscopic anatomy)20h

The human ovum is about 100 µmin diameter and marginally visible to the naked
eye (if one has good eyes). Some adipocytes (fat cells) get a little bit bigger
thanthat, but not much. Those are extraordinarily large, as human cells go.

But they’re not the largest human cells by any means. A typical skeletal muscle
cell isalso about 100 µm wide, but 3 cm (1.2 in.) long. Even the average
musclecell is 300 times as long as an ovum is wide. The longest muscle cells
are 5times as wide and 10 times as long as average.

Motor neurons of the spinal cord have cell bodies about the same size asan ovum
(100 µm dia.), but axons that can be more than a meter long.

So no, egg cells are far fromthe largest cells in the human body.

Q7         Was there a bigdisappointment in Mysore when Bengaluru has chosen to
be a capital of state?

A7          Goutham R Lives inBengaluru, Karnataka, IndiaFri

As per my knowledge, there was no big disappointment.

Because Bengaluru was alwaysadministrative capital even under Wodeyars and
British.

Mysuru and Bengaluru could be compared to today’s Gandhinagar andAhmedabad in
Gujarat.

Mysuru was cultural capital,Wodeyars lived there, everykind of art was
encouraged there. But when it came to administration, economicpolicies,
industrialization, they always chose Bengaluru.

They had connected Bengaluruwith many towns through railways, there was a
palace in Bengaluru too. Premiereducational institutions like IISC, University
of Agricultural Sciences, etc was established in Bengaluru.

Mysuru too had its share ofcolleges and industries.

But, Bengaluruwas ahead as it had first electricity connection in India, the
Hydro Electric Project at Shivanasamudra Fallsprovided electricity to the city.
It was the first city in India to getelectric street lights in 1905.

School of Engineering, later renamed as UVCE was established in 1917
inBengaluru.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat was established in 1915 in Bengaluru to promotethe
growth of Kannada, they opted Bengaluru over Mysuru. The cantonment part
ofBengaluru was under the British, they too had developed that region
verywell.Vast lands were available to setup factories like HAL, NAL, BEL,
BEML,etc.

In 17th century itself, Bengaluru had “Attara Kacheri” (a Hindustaniword, it
was from Mughal influence) which had a secretariat of eighteenadministrative
departments, it also housed the High court. Even the BritishCommissioners used
to administer from here. As this had space constraint, thenMysore Chief
Minister Sri. Kengal Hanumathaiah ordered the construction of newassembly for
the state in 1952. In between, there were talks of making someother city in
North Karnataka as capital, many wanted Davanagere to be capitalit is located
in center of the state.

Finally, it was this building Vidhana Soudha which fixed the fate ofBengaluru
as capital.

So we can understand that Bengaluru always played the role of secondcapital
during Wodeyar’s rule.Hence, people from Old Mysore region had noissues in
accepting Bengaluru as the capital city.In fact, they are happy tosee Bengaluru
as capital, no person from Mysuru, Mandya, Haasana, Shivamogga,Mandya, etc
wants their cities to become like Bengaluru, they fear forenvironmental
degradation issues.

Q8         What should be the roomsize for an air conditioner of 1.5 tons?

A8          Rahul Bhatia, AnOptimistAnswered Dec 13, 2018

AC units are measured by “tons”,but this measure is notreferring to the weight
of the AC but this measure indicates the capacity ofthe air conditioner to cool
the room.

1 Refrigeration tonne (RT) ACwill remove 12000 BTU heat from the room per hour.

Several factors that are to be considered for selecting proper size ACdepends
on -

The number of Windows in theroom.

Gadgets that produce heat such as TV, Desktop etc. Number of walls facingthe
sunlight.Number of people in the room. How well the room is insulated suchas
flooring, glass and other openings
To find the ton AC required youshould know the length, breadth and the height
of the room. Once we know all these parameters we can find the volumeof the
room and then accordingly from the following table we can find thecorresponding
tonne required. (I am not able to paste the table)
