And the story of how Indian natural (Ayurvedic) medicine healed me. Here’s the story:
Seven years before I came to India, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Syndrome by Swedish doctors. Crohn’s Syndrome is a serious auto-immune stomach disease. I was being treated in Sweden with a standing prescription of antibiotics (two kinds, twice a day), in very high doses. And this had been the line of treatment for seven years. In numbers this meant, I had stomached more than 10,000 antibiotic pills over these seven years. And tragically, they were not helping. My condition was worsening, and I needed to be wheeled in for urgent surgeries with increasing frequency. After moving to India, I continued to go to the best Indian doctors who continued the same treatment as I was having in Sweden, and also performed the same surgeries that would only give temporary relied. But I continued to suffer. And this prompted me to turn to alternative medicine. I discovered an Ayurvedic doctor who questioned my entire line of treatment. He took the bold stance of questioning my past treatment and put me through a series of diagnoses, only to discover that I never had Crohn’s disease. This of course came as a shock: why had Swedish doctors then been treating me with antibiotics for all these years for Crohn’s? After much investigation, and calls to the hospitals in Sweden where I was treated, we realized I had never been tested. They had made prescriptions based on an inference! I could write a whole book on this, but to make a long story short: my newfound Indian healer got me to stop taking my antibiotics immediately, and moved me to an ancient form of treatment programme that he promised would completely heal me within 8 months. And by the clock, he was able to keep his word. In the last week of the 8th month, I made my final visit to the ancient Varanasi (Benares) on the banks of the river Ganga, where my doctor’s ‘guru’ declared me cured.
