Hello Bruce, I think we're suffering the same inflated PDFs. I attach a small project which uses 3 very tiny PNGs as input, resulting into a PDF which is at least 3x the size in MB. With large bitmaps, a PDF is produced which some computers cannot handle anymore because of size. We also use Therion version 5.3.10.
For the "Fuchslabyrinth" Project, we have an additional issue which is at least as painful: Overlapping sketches (even if the inserted PNGs are transparent) lead to a PDF output, where passages in the overlapping area are concealed. Current workaround is to crop the PNGs razorsharp at the passage boundaries, but that is not always possible. See attached mini-project. If you or the Therion developers have a "fix" for either issue, we'd greatly appreciate receiving it! So I am wondering how you are making it workable? Either; - something in our custom metapost or layouts is causing the error for us and you are not experiencing this bug, or - you are using an old version of Therion in which this feature was bug free, or - you are putting up with very large output files, even for very small portions of your overall project I'm interested in your comments.
