Hi I hit this same problem - the issue is Sphinx 2.0.1 doesn't work on OS X. What I've done (as suggested by Curtis in the other thread) is grabbed the latest source for Sphinx (2.0.2-dev) from SVN, compiled that, and it works fine.
Also: make sure you're using edge Riddle (via git in your Gemfile).
