Hmm, not sure if Sphinx is case-sensitive, but perhaps it's worth changing the 
field references to use the same cases as the columns? You can add aliases too:

  indexes TITLE, :as => :title
  indexes Abstract, :as => :abstract
  indexes Description, :as => :description
