PS. In docs http://pat.github.io/thinking-sphinx/searching.html
ranker name "match_any" is mistyped. At least no ranker error raised by 
Sphinx.
Using 
gem 'rails', '3.2.16'
gem 'thinking-sphinx', '3.0.6'

'matchany' - works ok.
Also docs lacks of 'sph04' ranking mode.
