Anything different when you boot to Safe Mode w/ Networking?

So I have a customer with a T60p. I don't know WHAT she did, but here it is: NEITHER network adaptor appears in network properties. BOTH appear in Device Manager. Fn+F5 brings up the radio power screen, but the wifi won't turn on. I also get "do you want to turn on wifi?" messages, but when I click yes, nothing happens. I must admit I am clueless.
