Waiting a while didn't help, although maybe I should have waited longer.

chkdsk /p (from XP install disk) reported a disk error. chkdsk /r, after about 5 hours (60gb disk), reported that it fixed one or more problems. After that the system booted and seems to work.

I suppose this means I should replace the disk? Or might this just have been some software problem? Are there other tests I should be running?

This looks like explorer not loading. Have the same problem 2 times out

Didn't work. None of lost known or the safe mode options do anything other than go to a black screen with safe mode around the edges and some

XP designator at the top

My wife's x31 won't boot Windows XP. If I turn it on, it goes through the Windows logo screen, then goes to a blue screen, but with

a working mouse, and just sits there. If I boot in safe mode, it says safe mode around the edges, with a black screen and a working mouse, and just sits there.

How do I go about trying to fix this?
