Hi.
I am running Xubuntu 9.10 on my TP600 at present and am quite happy with it. It
is a bit sluggish, but that is to be expected on a 300Mhz machine. Before
anyone accuses me of flitting from one OS to another this is just speculation
at present.
Which OS would best suit this machine? Xubuntu is great but it doesn't really
fly. I would like an OS that rips along. There is a sticker on this machine
that says 'built for Windows 98'.
It is a ThinkPad 600. A 300Mhz Pentium 2, maxxed to 288MB of RAM and with a
60GB hard drive. I originally had Windows 2000 and Windows XP running on this
when I had 160MB of RAM and both ran terribly, but I have recently added a
further 128MB RAM.
I only use it for web browsing, writing emails via webmail, storing and syncing
my photos via DropBox.
My additional hardware is pretty limited. I have a number of USB flash drives,
a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card, a USB bluetooth dongle and a couple of wireless cards (a
Buffalo WLI-CB-G54A and Edimax 7108 PCG) both of which work under Win 98SE
upwards.
The main pieces of software I would use would be a web browser (either IE or
Firefox), Skype, DropBox and Office.

As you can see, both hardware and software wise I don't require/use a lot. I
just would like to make this a nice and fast web machine.
