That's the exact mistake. For some reason on some ThinkPads an F12 boot
resets the boot order. I have seen it many times.

Hmm. I booted from DVD with F12 in order to run the RR DVD, the second
stage started from HD.
I'll try that tomorrow and report back (I'm away now).
Thanks

If I am understanding what you are saying, you need to go into the BIOS
and
set the unit to boot from the CD/DVD drive before the hard drive.

Subject: [Thinkpad] XP Downgrade help please?
Hello,
I have some trouble with a downgrade from Windows 7 to XP. This is the
first time I'm doing this, so quite likely I'm doing something wrong.
T500 2082-BPG, Windows 7 Italian. Included media:
Rescue and Recovery DVD 45M5915
Product Recovery Disc Windows XP Professional SP3 1/2 PN 58Y1972
Product Recovery Disc Windows XP Professional SP3 2/2 PN 58Y1899
Both recovery discs state on the label: Type
2801,2808,2809,2815,2823,2824,2825. This model is 2082 (not listed),
which I didn't notice before I started.
I exploded the original Win7 install and created the Software and data
recovery DVD. Then I booted the rescue and recovery DVD, selected full
restore from DVD. The Disc got formatted/cleansed, "no turn off and
restart".
At boot Rescue and recovery started automatically from hard disk, asking
for the recovery media. By selecting CD/DVD it said to insert the LAST
cd/dvd of the set; anyway both the first and the second WinXP DVD are
rejected (it always asks for the last media of the set).
Am I doing something obviously wrong? Should I contact Lenovo for a
correct recovery media set?
Thanks
