Just as a follow up, I called EZ SERV and since this unit has on site, they
said they would send out a tech to update the BIOS. Now I wonder if I can
get a copy of HIS disk!

Subject: [Thinkpad] GRRRR. Hardware Maint Disk
So I picked up a T61. The S/N sticker is intact on the bottom. But it does
not match the S/N and type-part number in the BIOS. But here is the
thing - the BIOS type-part SN is for a T400. The number on the case
exactly matches the hardware in the T61, and in the parts lookup.
So it looks to me like the board was replaced by IBM and the tech entered
the wrong info - probably off another machine on his bench. It happens,
and is not uncommon.
But not wanting to have a warranty issue, I tried to change the numbers
back using the Hardware Maint Disk, V 1.69, which is the latest I have.
The utility runs, it allows me to change the numbers back, and when I
check inside the utility it shows the new number I entered. But the BIOS
still shows the old numbers!
Anyone got a newer version than 1.69, or a clue how to get it to "take"?
