I didn't see any further posts on whether this problem was resolved. I'm interested in knowing if it was, because it's very similar to the problem I have now with a T42. The display just blanks, usually within minutes of booting up, both on the laptop screen and when an external monitor is connected. No other indications of display or video connection problems (flickering, dimming, stray lines, etc.), and everything else (HD, CD, LEDs) keeps running.

I can rule out the hard drive (installed another one, same problem) and the switch that shuts off the display when the lid is closed (there's no indication the switch is stuck).

I'm aware of the graphics chip problem with T40-T42, as I had one replaced on a T40. But that issue had different indications - in my case it was either a BSOD, system freeze, or entire system shut down.

So if anyone can shed any light on my blanking screen, I'd appreciate it.

There were no precursors to the screen problems, nothing pinkish,
dimming whatsoever.

I think I will retureve it from them and await my return to the US
where EZServe is looking like the warm embrace of a reliable friend!

Any other ideas would be helpful, in the meantime, I like Bruce's
non-invasive fix, I will give it a tray when I get it back.

Subject: [Thinkpad] T43 screen out, China support befuddled!

The unit in question is a T43 2687-D4U with the x300 video processor,
running XP, 1 gb RAM, 15" Flexview screen

About two weeks ago, the screen went dark. I fussed with it and it
came back on (fussing=Fn F4)and it came back on for about 10 minutes,
successive efforts over the next hour or so yielded steadily declining
intervals of "screen on".

I am in southern China with a IWS warranty, brought it to Lenovo (they
have a repair center here, I have used them before with some success).
They have now had it 11 days, have made several repairs (I THINK the
inverter and the backlight, can't be sure as they did not give me the
part number and the translation doesn't work out too well). It now
seems that they haven't a clue what to do.

My options:

1) Let them continue to learn as they go
2) But a cheap external monitor (the external monitor access does work)
3) Pack it up and take it to Hong Kong (2 hours) and rely on their
abilities
4) Continue using the borrowed x60 and wait till I get back to the US
in five weeks.

Any ideas what might be ailing my computer
