The problem has been resolved and Lenovo installed a new LCD screen ( FRU 92P6680) and the cable to the screen. It could have been one or more of the components, who knows, but this was how they decided, after two weeks contemplation, to repair it. It works a dream now, bright and clear, no stuck pixels (not that the original one was too shabby wither.)
