Thanks for advice, George. I will return the memory for exchange. I don't think
my RAM slot has defect, because it works just fine when I plugged in my old
RAMs (2x1GB DDR PC2-5300).

Regards,
Willy

I don't believe that you're on the right track here.
?
Having owned numerous ThinkPads (including all varieties of X60) with the
chipset in question, I will state that they work with no issues with 2+1GB,
1+0.5GB, 2+0.5GB as well as 2x1GB and 2x2GB.
?
I believe that you have a defective RAM stick, or slot or another hardware
issue altogether. Running a memtest 86 on one stick at the time, one slot after
another would be a good start.
?
While you can physically install 4GB and have BIOS recognize it, only 3GB will
be usable due to a chipset limitation, regardless of OS used.
?
Proper RAM for these machines is PC2-5300 667Mhz.
?
Good luck.
?
Cheers,
?
George

Subject: [Thinkpad] RAM issues on Thinkpad X60s

I have issue with ram installed in my thinkpad x60s, running windows7 32bit.

I upgraded my x60s' ram to 3gb, which each slot 1x1gb and 1x2gb, both are
PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM SODIMMs, and it starts to hang after a lot of programs
opened.

I've browsed and found that Intel 945 would only works with balanced ram for
both slot, and for using 2gb ram, should use PC2-4200.

I want to use 4gb ram in total, which I except the consequences of available
only 3gb on 32bit system.

My questions are:
1. Can my x60s hold a 4gb ram?
2. Should I installed 2x2gb PC2-5300, or 2x2gb PC2-4200?

Thanks.
