Can't you just use SATA drives via an HDD caddy in the ultrabay?
I understand that prevents you from using the ultrabay for something
else, but I must say I don't have much use for my ultrabay (I use an
optical drive maybe twice a year to rip the odd CD, and I plug
a battery in there when I want to try and extend the battery life a bit
further tho I always end up very disappointed with the result anyway).
