I'm not fond of the apparent measurements of widescreen displays. My 22"
monitor at work feels smaller than my 19" at home.

Anyway, how bad would a 14" be? The T430 is available with 1600x900
resolution in a 14.1" display, which feels like a good size to me. It's
32mm wider than your X301, same depth, and 7mm thicker. I've always liked
the extended 9-cell batteries because they make a nice carrying handle and
actually seem to make the laptop feel smaller and more portable. And, it's
available with a 2.9-3.5GHz i7-3520M and can hold up to 16GB RAM.

Will that do what you need?
