But this raises an unexpected question.

Up to now the special characters have in my experience been
invoked with Alt+nnnn (using numeric keypad).

But when I search in the Character Map of Arial Unicode
(the MS font set which includes glyphs for most of the
world's languages) I find the anuswara invoked with 
"U+1E42"   How does  one key that?
