Forgive me deviating from the basics of this forum but this is just one of the reasons Thunderbird will not succeed. It has a development team not focused on its users but their own self centered view of "how a mail client should be". It tells users in versions to 1.5 "use the config editor" to change timeouts then gives a GUI based method in 2.0 and then- deliberating removing a user option - returns to the neanderthal method of the config editor in 3.0. These are not developers supporting user needs - they are small time dictators following their own egos.
