I've just spotted HTMLFormattingPlugin which looks as if it'll help me use more TW markup and the HTMLFormattingPluginInfo provides an introduction to some TW markup that wouldn't work including embedded macros.
Of course there's no information there about plugin compatibilities (unless the plugin is invoked via a macro) so I'd remain interested in any issues anyone foresees here. And meanwhile I'll try out HTMLFormattingPlugin.
